Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) if you can’t find what you need, feel free to contact us at (781) 619-1500.

Does ICCD accept insurance?

Yes. Because we are an integrated center comprised of different departments and services, the insurance coverage varies in each department.

Our neuropsychologists and therapists accept Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and Optum/United Behavioral Health (UBH). UBH is the mental health coverage with most Harvard Pilgrim and United Healthcare plans.

The physicians in our Medical Department are all in-network with BCBS, Harvard Pilgrim, and Tufts Health Plan (commercial plans only). Additionally, some physicians are also in-network with Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare.

The OT & Speech departments accept BCBS, Harvard Pilgrim, and Allways Health

There are some services at ICCD that insurance companies do not cover such as the educational/academic assessment completed in a Neuropsychological Evaluation, tutoring services, classroom observations, clinician participation in school meetings, assistive technology evaluations, and sports psychology sessions.

Why does ICCD always conduct an educational evaluation as part of a Neuropsychological Evaluation on a school aged child?

Our psychologists feel strongly that neuropsychological evaluations should be as thorough as possible. A detailed and effective evaluation results in valuable treatment planning that aids parents in accessing supports for their children across settings. A child’s abilities will certainly affect his or her main foundation, which is school. It is important to understand the relationship between a child’s neuropsychological profile and learning profile to understand their strengths and vulnerabilities, how they experience the world, and allow families to access any supports that their child may need.

Our goal is to provide families with much more than just a diagnosis. If your child is currently being served on an IEP or 504 plan, the evaluating psychologist will be able to review their current services and make updated recommendations for accommodations based off of the data from both pieces of the evaluation. If your child is not on an IEP or 504 plan at school, the testing allows the clinician to make appropriate recommendations should they feel that your child may be eligible for services at school. At ICCD, our psychologists are devoted to the children and families that they serve. All recommendations are written and addressed in detail so that you are able to access any accommodations that your child may be entitled to in your public school.

Why doesn’t insurance cover the educational piece of the Neuropsychological Evaluation?

Insurance companies do not consider educational testing “medically necessary”. Therefore, a procedure code does not exist and clinicians are unfortunately unable to bill for it.

Does ICCD offer payment plans for the educational evaluation?

Yes, there are a couple different options available. Please contact us for detailed information.

What is the appointment process of a Neuropsychological Evaluation?

The evaluations are typically 3-4 appointments consisting of an initial intake session, two 2-hour testing sessions, and a parent feedback appointment to discuss the results of the evaluation.

How often can my child be tested?

Insurances do not allow more than one neuropsychological evaluation within the same 12-month period. It’s typically recommended that children be re-evaluated within 18-24 months, unless otherwise recommended by the clinician.

Are there any clinicians that specialize in infant & toddler Neuropsychological Assessments?

Yes. Dr. Rafael Castro specializes in infant and toddler evaluations. The infant and toddler assessments are appropriate for children between the ages of 12 and 36 months. These evaluations occur over one 2-hour appointment.
